What it is

Brands and Competitors is the workspace where you define the entities Findable monitors. You declare your brand, your competitor set, the categories you operate in, and the adjacencies that matter — so every later analysis runs against the right market.

Why it matters for AI search

AI search is an entity competition. Every score, every recommendation, every gap is meaningful only against the brands AI considers your peers. Defining that set explicitly is the difference between insight and noise.

The shift

"AI markets are defined by entities, not keywords."

How Findable helps

Findable lets you organize brands and competitors into categories, mark direct and adjacent rivals, and run every module — visibility, sources, content, authority — against that explicit market definition.

Category organization

AI search is an entity competition. Every score, every recommendation, every gap is meaningful only against the brands AI considers your peers. Defining that set explicitly is the difference between insight and noise.

What this allows teams to do

Without Findable
  • Define competitors implicitly
  • Compare against the wrong peer set
  • Confuse adjacent and direct rivals
  • Lose entities to alias drift
With Findable
  • Declare brands, competitors and categories explicitly
  • Run every metric against your real market
  • Mark adjacency separately from direct competition
  • Normalize every entity with alias handling

What you can see inside Findable

  • Your brand profile
  • Direct competitor list
  • Adjacent entities
  • Category groupings
  • Per-entity visibility
  • Per-entity authority
  • Market-wide comparisons

Methodology

Entities are normalized to canonical names with alias handling. Categories and adjacencies drive which prompts, sources and competitors a brand is measured against — so every metric reflects a real, declared market.

Brand and competitor sets are maintained by combining user-defined entities with AI-detected entities across the supported AI systems, prompts, citations, and industry baselines.

Examples of brand & competitor analysis

Illustrative scenarios showing how teams manage their tracked brand and competitor set.

Retail
  • A retailer maintains a tracked set including Nike, Adidas, Decathlon, and two regional rivals AI surfaced unexpectedly.
Healthcare SaaS
  • An EHR vendor curates a list of named procurement rivals plus emerging entrants seen in AI answers.
Consumer brands
  • A fashion brand keeps Everlane, Reformation, and Patagonia in its competitor set to mirror AI-perceived peers.

How AI engines evaluate brand and competitor sets

AI engines treat brands and competitors as entities.

  • Entity recognition
How clearly each brand is identified as a distinct entity.
  • Co-occurrence
How often brands appear together in the same answer.
  • Recommendation overlap
How often they are recommended on the same prompts.
  • Citation overlap
How often shared sources cite both.
  • Category alignment
Whether they share the same category embedding.
  • Intent similarity
Whether they answer the same buyer intent.

Findable surfaces these signals so the tracked set reflects who AI engines actually consider comparable.
